Burning Ships is a feed of aural snapshots sent to earth from a solo journey I embarked upon years ago. It is a vessal for creating an elegant mix of romantic and phantasmagoric songs and spacescapes laced with synthy explorations into the heart, mind, and soul of the sonically unexpected.
I created Burning Ships after crawling out of the wreckage of a Boston-based band called Foundation. It was a progressive SpaceRock trio. Drums, bass, guitar, and lots of MIDI synth work programmed by yours truly.
Prior to Foundation, we had been playing together since the mid 1980’s in a Pop-Rock band called The Rize. In all of our incarnations, we played almost every club in and around Boston for years and years. And we made tons of 4, 8, 16, and 24 track recordings in such places as Blue Jay Studio and Normandy Sound, as well as in our own home studio. None of which were ever formally released for one reason or another.
Well, all of those years meant more to me than to the others, so now I go it alone. Empty Hold is the start of getting all of the old and lots more new material released for the first time. It was worth the climb out of the abyss.
